Denon Marantz knows how to create great sound but they are not a software company. I bought three HEOS 7s and two HEOS 5s (gen 1) and they sound amazing. They blow SONOS away in audio quality. But SONOS is a software company that makes speakers. Thus the paradigm shift. SONOS has a wonderful app and Denon has what Id call an app with good intentions. SONOS sound good but HEOS sound amazing.
Recent updates have helped a bit but they desperately need to invest in a dedicated app designer that starts from scratch. Drag and drop is such a great idea but way too often it causes a speaker to be isolated witching a group with no cure but to deconstruct the whole group, restart the app and rebuild the speaker group. After firmware updates, Speakers often fail to function until they are manually power cycled, or they will not play as a group unless removed, power cycled, then added back. I feel sorry for the less than technically inclined. The sound is so warm, full, rich and deep that I endure the pain of the app and keep buying speakers. I just ordered a HEOS 5 gen 2 for my screened in porch.
Remember, good intentions and lets pray that Denon keeps trying.
