The latest update of the app is glitching. It is slower than the previous version and it locks up and has to be terminated and reopened. Very disappointing experience with this update! Come on guys please fix this!

The latest update did not correct the issue of the HEOS app not automatically changing the Denon AVR input to HEOS when using Amazon Music. It does change input sometimes but most of the time it doesn’t. It does change AVR input to HEOS automatically when selecting other sources (SiriusXM, iPhone).
big improvment ,now is what I want thank you
What keeps me from using the app regularly is how many more steps it takes than an app like Tidal to just start playing music I want. The artist page is unnecessary. If I click an artist, chances are I want to listen to their music, not their bio, not find similar artists. I click. Albums. I click the album. I press the fourth song. Options: play now, play now and replace queue, add to end of queue, more…. If I play now, I get that song. Then nothing. Or worse. The rest of the record I was listening to yesterday start. The album I’m on doesn’t keep playing. No streaming app is like this. If there were an option for an intuitive and streamlined experience that takes you to the albums first, that disables queuing, I would get behind that. Thanks for listening.
Muy buena aplicación fácil de usar para escuchar con tus aplicaciones favoritas, o de tu biblioteca . Muy recomendable
After this last update when I switch from online listening(Pandora, SiriusXM, internet rafio, etc.), and switch to inputs(analog, cd, etc.), although I can listen to the input signal, the generic icon for that input is not displayed. Rather the display show what I was listening to before I switched to the input! Crazy, need fix!
Like most apps, every time there is an upgrade it gets worse. Great speakers, but this app is horrible. Works ok when I stream Tidal, but can’t get it to work with Spotify.
I just updated today, March 26, 2025. I was previously very happy with the HEOS app after the last update. Unfortunately, today’s update completely changed the experience to be unacceptable. The search function finds music as expected but trying to start the music from the search screen results is very hit or miss, mostly not possible. What a disappointment this new update is. 😟 As a former software developer I would be very happy to help beta test future updates to give expert feedback from an expert user perspective. That would save the frustration that your users experience and help elicit positive reviews.
Had a whole house system installed with Denon amps and what a disaster it’s been. I would replace the Denon equipment except we’re moving. I can’t escape HEOS fast enough.
You have to use the app's built-in music browser to listen from Apple Music, which is slow, randomly stops or skips entire songs, and you can't skip throughout the track, so you'll have to fully restart the song when it drops out. Honestly shameful that the app for such an expensive product can be so horribly designed. Sonos blows this out of the water in every single way.
Should have a connection to Apple Music
Updated to 3.67.270 excited to see that bugs with search were being fixed. Unfortunately, I just tested the search feature, and there are still bugs. Would love to help beta test and solve some of the issues if a dev wants to reach out.
Hard to get it to connect; just need to play around with it.
After every update I have to put on my engineering hat and figure out how to make it work. Today it took me 15 minutes just to get music to play and at that, it only plays one song. Secondly, my wife has ZERO patients and just puts her earbuds in and listens to her iPhone instead of the nice Denon stereo with Klipsch speakers. MP3s came out 25 years ago, yet it’s as painful now as then to listen to them. I hope vinyl makes a return 100%.
Why this app is still not accessible from the lock screen or control center remains a mystery. Physical volume buttons and iOS audio playback controls don't even function when your iiPhone is unlocked.. You're forced to go back into the HEOS app. This needs to be addressed.
Would love this even more if you fixed the interaction with Sirius so the Xtra channels would work. Can’t stream the channels to my whole house via Bluetooth
I’ve had a HEOS home speaker system for about 6 years. Every day I regret this purchase decision. The HEOS App requires that I literally restart my iPhone every time I try to play music. Songs mysteriously skip in the middle of playing and changing music sources generally requires another iPhone reboot. The App is buggy, unstable, and a source of constant frustration. Buy literally any other home system… Denon has been a non-stop disappointment.
HEOS just does not work—plain and simple. Listening to music for awhile then app says it cannot connect. Reset it and it works ok for a few hours. Then go to listen again and it says nothing is connected—you have to reset all your devices again and again—just hate it. I’d give it 0 stars if there was an option.
Tidal will not load on HEOS. I keep getting a message that the HEOS server is not available.
I have been having issues maintaining a connection with a Marantz receiver.
I can never get my new denon amp to connect reliably either to my connected tv or airplay. The app doesnt help as accessing your amp is buried deep in the settings and it’s not very capable in terms of functionality.
I just want to play music! The app - which I keep updated - will not connect to the AV receiver. Had a party last night - and would love to have had music playing. But no. The app hasn't worked for two weeks. I spent a ton of money on the equipment and it collects dust. Does anyone even read these reviews? Based on the number of bad reviews, I'm going to guess no. Ridiculous. Let me skip your app and just listen to music.
It’s impossible for me to log into my SoundCloud account. Whenever I try, it says “please enable pop ups in this browser and try again.” My SoundCloud account is connected to my Google account, the browser in the SoundCloud app clearly doesn’t support this.
The HEOS app is worthless on my phone. My husbands works fine. My AVR is logged into my HEOS account and my phone is on the same network but the Denon AVR isn’t seen. Can’t connect by Bluetooth or HEOS app.
HEOS app- I think you use some Real help when coming to this app. You could learn a few tips from music cast Yamaha is so much better and way easier to use. Pretty disappointed for the $ spent on 2 of these
Denon and HEOS speakers need this app to control output. The app is totally unintuitive and more often than not just stops working. If HEOS can’t find the Denon AVR, it’s not possible to get audio output through the speakers.
I’ve owned many Denon products because they DIDN’T require an account. Now they do and very tired of my paid for hardware being held ransom for requiring an account. It’s the equivalent of theft! It was bought, the options were useable without an account, and now they are not. Very disappointing move that will cost you a customer, hopefully many. Have fun with that. I’d give it less than one star if I could.
Sometimes it appears and sometimes it doesn’t. Lame.
Navigating is a nightmare
This app should take advantage of Sonos’ issues now and develop more widget functionality for iOS… that would seal the deal for me. Easier access to saved playlists, play/pause/next, easier volume control. That would be awesome
I use it a lot with my Denon receiver. Overall pretty good….but I have a pay account with Pandora and HEOS somehow makes it so that a skip limit is imposed! Better interface for Pandora would be a good upgrade (better search, no skip limits)
The quality control with HEOE app releases must be non existent. I have an account and it can find my speakers but the app is very often unresponsive when pressing play. The UI used to be simpler and more intuitive. Do better Denon.
No reason for the app to require an account
Please, please make the room selection and volume control on the same page.
Let me say upfront, that I am very new to HEOS having come by it due to my recent purchase of Dannon AV. I love the input options and the sound quality (wattage) output. I am not sure if it is me, but the WiFi/BT seems very weak and often disconnect from my nearby network. I connected my cable box to the AV and AV to TV with HEMI and optical cable. Not sure if I did it incorrectly but the HEOS works great for a while and goes crazy. The remote stops working, and then the AV will not play until I unplug and replug everything. Then the cycle repeats after a few days. Has anyone experienced similar issues or did I completely mess up the connections?
I’ve used the HEOS app in my home for nearly 7 years but today it wanted me to open an account, for what? It worked for 7 years without an account. I’ll delete and find something else.
I am a huge fan of Denon and Marantz (DM) and I support them fully in word and my pocket. I have purchased the highest and most expensive of Marantz. I love the idea of HEOS is saves customer from needing to buy streaming HIFI items in addition to the preamp receiver like Blue Sound. Unfortunately, despite my loyalty I do not pull punches. DM has a very long way to go with HEOS. I recently purchased a new Blue Sound device to stream HIFI because HEOS glitches, freezes, and responds slowly. WHEN this is fixed I will be front and center to withdraw my statement and continue my advocacy. At this point I unfortunately have to say please don’t use HEOS invest in another HIFI streaming device like Blue Sound or another. This is not a paid review, I am blessed to not need DM or anyone else’s money. Don’t use HEOS for now. If DM cares they should reply to this review with updates I have full faith they will provide. At this time when HEOS functions seamlessly then I will endorse using HEOS.
All I want to do is stream music from my iPad or my MacBook to the Denon receiver. The music is mine and ON MY DEVICE, and for some reason it is almost impossible to get it to play from iTunes. Selecting “from this phone” even though it’s an iPad doesn’t seem to help when I use the search, it sends me to amazon music so I can pay for music I already have. This app is a great idea just executed poorly.
The app works great with my Denon AVR S970H Love it.
I can't get Airplay to work, and my iPad does not seem to support the best Bluetooth out there. I have two Denon Home 350's, an Heos is nothing for me except a volume control. I use Amazon Music for all other streaming functionality.
It seems Soundcloud needs a pop up menu to log in with a google account but the app does not allow pop up windows to open resulting in me being not able to log into soundcloud all together.
You can login and log off and it forgets speakers. Entire zones disappear for no reason. Do not recommend.
Probably one of the worst user interfaces I’ve seen on any app.
What’s the point? I can already stream to my AVR with Airplay. Now I have to get an account? Guess that’s the point. What would be really useful, is HomeKit integration. Then I can include it in automations and scenes at least.
Extremely disappointed! Unable to connect 2 of my 3 HEOS 5 speakers. Denon should have spent more time on this app.
With the newest AVR-X6800H receiver, when I switch to the HEOS input, TuneIn Radio automatically starts playing Bloomberg radio. This is driving me mad since prior receivers never did this and I refer to have the Denon start up with that input selected so that at some future point after that, I can use AirPlay from my phone to beam music to it. Now when I wake up in morning, or when switching to watch TV and then back to the HOS input, it always starts playing TuneIn no matter what. There doesn’t seem to be any way to remove TuneIn and/or stop the auto playback, of any source, from happening.
Came with my new Denon AVR. Sounds great, easy setup, intuitive and links right up with Amazon Unlimited. I’m sure it’s equally good with Tidal etc.
Pushing an update that holds my home sound system hostage unless I make an account is just horrid. Regretting my recent purchase of demon recovers.
Back into HEOS app to control volume
