Good start but missing basics

i will update, edit the negative statements, and improve the ratings greatly once these are addressed. (if they are implemented timely enough and im still a heos customer) Great hardware but software needs to add control of music. ***No fast forward or rewind when playing my network/DLNA library content !?! ***** cmon denon - Thats a basic music playback requirement since the1980s at least !! wed rather you stop all other heos initiatives and put all tech-hands and coding resources on deck to get the basic music functions & controls working before moving back on to adding more content providers and "good to have" features. save the polish until after the 1st coat of paint dries, or it will all peel away (and so will your loyal customers becuz ur most well known and biggest competitor(s) have basic controls down pat already and hint one of them rhymes with "so nose" I have tons of continuous DJ mixes and podcasts i cant play at all because i want to ff and rw or pick up where i left off or let someone hear a certain part...or work out to a specific song...not listen start to finish 90-120 minute every time !!! Also give us some control of the sub out - like a low pass crossover or bass mgmt of some sort so i dont have to walk to my sub every time i need to adjust the bass!! I want to use the Heos app!! Duh ! I like the heos amp and link the app is nicely done and the hardware rocks but if no basic controls soon i have to go buy back and invest deeper into to my old system - the 5 letter word that starts with an "S" and can be spelled backwards and still be the same- and i am just about to expand my 5000 sq ft home system big time ...indoors & out

Stuck in Download - Purgatory

Install the App based on the sound system our AV fellow installed. Worked great for about 5 weeks. This weekend it forced all devices that it is loaded on into updating to the new version and has been stuck in the process on all devices for several days. I have uninstalled the application, reinstalled -etc. Needless to say I now have a non working very expensive audio system. When you select the link on this sight for application or software help, it takes you to the generic website with no resolution.

This app is a joke.

This app is so terrible that it is hard to understand why they even bothered releasing it. Please Denon, let’s be serious! This app crashes, forgets speakers between uses, introduces inexplicable pauses at will, and if you try to play a new track or change the volume, chances are that you will have to wait for minutes.

Completely useless

Do not buy these incredibly expensive speakers, they rely on this app to be operational. This app is so bad, Im attempting to return the speaker (Heos 5). Update, I am getting the app to work about 80% of the time, I did not return the speaker. My chief complaint now is even though a sleep timer is available on Pandora, it is disabled by the app. These speakers would be SO much better without this app.

Useless

Every time I try to use the speaker, either the speaker firmware or the app itself needs to be updated, during which time the speaker is a brick. I cant remember the last time I was patient enough to sort out the various problems and actually listen to music.

Disgusted

Every day I wish I had never bought this equipment. While it did improve the sound of the speakers in my house, the app fouls up so much it doesnt even matter. I cant play my iPhone music library so Im stuck with soundcloud and Pandora. And when it fails it just fails. Usually while company is over and everyone knows how crappy this stuff is. Im shocked denon would make themselves look so bad. This app needs a revamp badly. If I had known this was what there was to control this equipment I would have never gone this route. Here I am in my house with all this money in stereo equipment listening to music through my phone speakers because thats all Im left with. Not happy!!!!!

Works great!

I dont know what kind of network issues the other reviewers have but my 8 HEOS speakers work flawlessly. No problems here. I use an AirPort Extreme router with no extenders.

I love this app

I use this app every day. It just works. No issues. I have a good 5g wifi router and was careful to set it up carefully. Have heos drive,1,7 and heos link working well. The link connects into a marantz receiver which it controls remotely - and flawlessly. The app was no problem to set up - I am very satisfied - and the sound quality is excellent.

Love it!

We own seven units total - Hoes 5, Heos 7, and Heos Amp. We have not had any issues with the system. Its intuitive and feature rich. I love the new hi resolution version. The app keeps getting better with each update. Its intuitive and flexible. I do not understand the low reviews of the system or app here. These low reviews are so out of line with my experience, I have to wonder if they are from competitors.

Complete Garbage

Ive had two of these for a year and a half. The sound of the speakers are great the app which is required is worthless. DO NOT UPGRADE TO IOS 9.3. The upgrade just broke me again. I have always been a fan of Denon products but this system has been more trouble than its worth. I recommend Sonos. Im going to sell these and move on while I still have a semblance of sanity left and you should too.

HEOS is Unreliable- Loses WIFI Connection

Before IOS 9.3 my speakers would lose their HEOS connection to WIFI intermittently. Since 9.3 they wont play at all even though HEOS App says they are playing. Losing my patience and thinking about switching to Sonos.

Confused by Negative Reviews

Ive only been using this app for a week, but have had none of the problems identified within the other reviews. Works great with my iTunes library, plays all day with no cut outs, works great with my iTunes media server (Mac mini), Amazon Music. Also works great along with my home automation system (simultaneously). I wish Denon supported Apple Music as I currently need to connect via my ATV3 with an optical connection. I assume some of the reported issues are due to weak WiFi networks. Overall pleased.

Should have gone with Sonos

Good speakers turned useless by a horrible app that crashes consistently. I have bought Denon products for years and they have always offered great quality. Regretfully, this useless app is not worthy of the Denon name.

Forced Update = Poor User Experience

Edit April 14, 2016: Now you are not even given an option to postpone the update (not that it even worked before); the "Update Later" button is now grayed out. You are forced to update in order to use the app and the device. When will Denon understand that this is a **horrible** user experience when all I want is to stream music I already own on my device? It worked before, nothing has changed about my use case, STOP forcing me to waste time updating!! The USER should be able to decide when, or if, to update. If I could give a negative star rating I would!! -----Prior Review----- When youre prompted to download and install an update, even clicking "dont update" ("update later") results in it updating anyway. Pointless useless piece of crap that forces its will on users. HORRIBLE user experience; will NEVER buy their product ever again.

A Few Key Featurea

App works well and audio streaming is great. Here are a few things that would be great to have! - Wake-up alarm without app open - Stream TV audio with lip sync - Dedicated IR code for each source for programming and sequencing with Logitech remote or similar Thanks!

Great App

Great App for a great device. Love them both!

Really?

So I went with Denon as s commercially recognized leader in audio tech. HUGE MISTAKE. Nothing works as it should, its fantastic when it does which makes it "not able to play...please try again later" all the more frustrating. Not being able to use an existing in-use playlist, saved playlists not working, even this feedback app that deleted my first review message because the "nickname" was already taken. Get it together please, I have the system - make me believe again.

Almost perfect

Works 95% of the time. A glitch here and there that an app restart usually corrects. Way easier and intuitive than Sonos. Needs two things IMHO. 1. Be able to pick genre stations from Pandora. 2. An easier way to access songs on your network. (Denon see the Nuvo share program for a hint) One final note: the HEOS drive rocks!!

The speakers are the best. The app, not so good.

Denon Marantz knows how to create great sound but they are not a software company. I bought three HEOS 7s and two HEOS 5s (gen 1) and they sound amazing. They blow SONOS away in audio quality. But SONOS is a software company that makes speakers. Thus the paradigm shift. SONOS has a wonderful app and Denon has what Id call an app with good intentions. SONOS sound good but HEOS sound amazing. Recent updates have helped a bit but they desperately need to invest in a dedicated app designer that starts from scratch. Drag and drop is such a great idea but way too often it causes a speaker to be isolated witching a group with no cure but to deconstruct the whole group, restart the app and rebuild the speaker group. After firmware updates, Speakers often fail to function until they are manually power cycled, or they will not play as a group unless removed, power cycled, then added back. I feel sorry for the less than technically inclined. The sound is so warm, full, rich and deep that I endure the pain of the app and keep buying speakers. I just ordered a HEOS 5 gen 2 for my screened in porch. Remember, good intentions and lets pray that Denon keeps trying.

HEOS System

The system works great. It has four rooms hard wired and one room with a wireless speaker. The app is very easy to use and works every time.
